Dayton, Oregon (population 2,704), is a charming and historic community located in the heart of the beautiful Willamette Valley in Yamhill County surrounded by bucolic farmland, scenic rolling hills, and lush vineyards. Located 25 miles southwest of Portland, Dayton’s proximity allows residents easy access to the region’s abundant outdoor recreation opportunities, tourist attractions, wineries, and larger urban area amenities. Dayton enjoys a moderate climate with mild winters and warm dry summers.

The City of Dayton employs a Council-Manager form of government with a Mayor and six- City Councilors who are elected at-large for four-year terms. The City Manager is the City government’s administrative head and is responsible for all City business administration. City departments include Administration, Public Works, Library, Planning Coordination, Building Permitting and Economic Development. The City employs 12.5 full-time equivalent employees, and its 2023-24 budget is approximately $9.8 million. City Attorney, Engineering, Planning, Building Inspection, Public Safety, and Fire services are provided via service contracts with multiple partners.

COMPENSATION: $100,000 - $130,000 (DOQ) WITH excellent benefits 

 

The City Manager position requires a bachelor’s degree in public administration, planning, political science, or related field, and at least three years of upper-level local government management experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

The City prefers a candidate with an advanced degree in public administration or related field, and at least five years of increasingly responsible experience. Experience and/or training in public finance and redevelopment initiatives is highly desired.
